Fenton winery & brewery wedding | Ellen & nick

I had the pleasure of photographing Ellen and Nick’s big day a couple weeks back at the Fenton Winery and Brewery in Fenton, Michigan. When Ellen first reached out in April 2022, I had to double check that the wedding date was June 12, 2022 and not June 12, 2023. Luckily, I had the day open and we quickly began ironing out the details.

Even with the close timing, we were able to squeeze in an engagement session at the Law Quad in Ann Arbor. Their 18-month old daughter, Nora, was so much fun and enjoyed being a model. Unexpectedly at the end of the session, I was showing Ellen and Nick photos on the back of my camera and Nora managed to wander off into a knee deep puddle and was covered in muddy water! Luckily, we were all wrapped up and got her cleaned up.

Fast forward to the wedding day and we were all crossing our fingers that it wasn’t going to rain - and it didn’t! It turned out to be a beautiful, slightly overcast day. The venue had a nice rustic vibe and a cute garden on the side where we were able to grab some great golden hour portraits.

There were so many great, personal moments throughout the day. From the first look to the first kiss, emotional first dances and frolicking on the dance floor. I think one of the funniest moments was when Ellen was signing the marriage license and wasn’t satisfied with the way she signed her new last name…because this was her first time! We all had a good laugh and assured her it looked great!

Once golden hour hit, I snuck Ellen and Nick off for a quick portrait session. This not only gave them a break from greeting all their guests, but we could capture some beautiful photos with the sun just peeking through. We got some GREAT photos and were even able to get Nora in the action.
